General
What is Traxmate?
Traxmate is an IoT tracking platform that makes it easy to set up the tracking environment and to perform real-time tracking of anything
Why use Traxmate?
- Businesses have thousands of connected IoT devices, moving assets, or mobile staff
- Companies want to operate their business in a
Safe, Secure, and Efficient way
To achieve this, tracking can be used used to
monitor the status and location of the moving assets
-
- Data and events collected from the moving assets will be used in business- and operational decisions/actions
- Geofence alerts (thefts, danger, and no-go zones)
- Nearest available asset
- Nearest available staff
- Utilization measurements

Places (Buildings, Areas, and Locations)
What is a Place?
A place can be a building, an area, or a location. A building is defined by walls and floors – and can hold features like elevators, stairs, escalators, and doors.
An area is defined by a shape and the user has the possibility to upload a map of the area.
A location is a point defined on the map.
The places can be created either by searching a specific address or finding a location on the map and clicking it. If users have chosen to make their places public other users are able to inherit that building and take advantage of any positioning work that has been done
The building shape and floor plan I created does not match when I switch the view between OSM and Google.
Different map providers has slightly diffrent maps. When placing the map and making surveys, use the same provider and the results will be correct relatively.
How do i improve the accuracy of the indoor positioning?
Making surveys will improve the building model and increase the accuracy.
To help the system learn what a place looks like, the user can perform surveys and/or reference tracks.
When the user makes a survey, they just turn on the app and walk around the premises preferably in an irregular pattern.
A reference track is performed by using the app and walking around the place. However, while walking around the user is placing reference points – and walking in as straight a line as possible in between.
To reach the best outcome possible for the positioning, these actions should be repeated preferably not in the same pattern.
As soon as these are finalized, they are sent into the system to be calculated into a building model
See our survey guide for more information.

How accurate is the outdoor and indoor location tracking?
This depends on the type of device you are using as well as how well the building is surveyed. A well-surveyed building with a good device can get as much as less than 2m accuracy.
Nodes/Ways
The user is able to define nodes inside the building. These nodes can either be defined as a building feature – or used as is to define ways through the building. Users link the nodes to each other depending on how you are able to move – and of course to and from any defined features. These ways will then be used to routeways for the user.
What is the difference between building, area, and location type?
Building = can have a shape, floor map and multiple floors
Area = can have a shape and area map
Location = fixed point
What is the difference between Public and Private Visibility for a place?
If you set the place to Public, anyone can add your place to their account with your shape and floor maps. They will however never get access to your surveys or models.
Floors
A building may have multiple floors above and below ground level. Each floor of a building can have different shapes. It is also possible to either choose a scheme to name the floors or name each floor individually.
The user is able to upload floor maps to assist in improving positioning and visualization.
Floor maps
Floor maps (or maps) can be uploaded by the user on each floor of a building or in an area. These are used to help the user improve the positioning efforts and to better visualize tracking.
Building models
A building model is an electronic representation of where beacons are placed within a place. The building model is generated when a user (or several) performs either surveys or reference tracks. As soon as these are finalized, they are sent into the system to be calculated into a building model.
When the building model has been calculated it is compared to any previously calculated models. The building model that has the smallest median error is then published – and this is the model that all positioning is calculated towards when using any devices.
The building models can be edited. The users are able to add – or edit beacons to further enhance the positioning effort
Building features
The features of the building are defined to add to the possibility to be able to build routing tracks in a building. The features that can be defined are Entrance, Door, Stairs, Escalator, and Elevator.
These features make it possible for the system to plot ways through the building and through the floors (if applicable). The defined features are saved in the building model they have been created within.
Routing
Using the routing feature the system will display the shortest route defined from one place to another.
Users
What is the difference between Admin and User roles?
When you register a new account you become admin by default. As an admin you can then invite other people as admins or users. As an admin you can add new places and perform surveys. As a user only basic functions are available.
Devices
What is device types?
A device type is a line of devices that handles data in a similar way. The distinction is made between the device vendor and the device version. However, there is a possibility to create subtypes to tailor the device to your own use case.
What is devices?
A device is a physical asset that sends positioning signals to the Traxmate system. The device can be linked to a specific user to make identifying easier. Every active device will produce a traffic log as well as a track.
The devices can also be grouped to simplify administration and monitoring.
What is signals?
The signals coming in from the device are all different for each device type. The user is able to set what signals are coming in and how they will be presented in the UI. Typical signals are position information like latitude, longitude, or sensor values like temperature or battery level.
What does it mean when a device traffic table is set to live?
When the switch is set to “Live” any new data will update the table directley. To pause this, turn the switch off and any new data will be stored in the background and addet to the table when it is “Live” again.
Why dosen’t my phone show up as a devices in the list on the home page?
When you log in to the app, your phone will be linked to your user profile and show up in the devices table but it will be seen as a user.
What is tracks?
Every position message that includes a valid position will result in a track of how the device has moved. The track can be played back – and include several dates if needed.
How often is my position updated?
When using the app, your position is updated every 30 seconds by default. To change this go to your account settings.
What different device types do you support?
We strive to have a dynamic system and try to support all device types. If there is a device type you can’t add please contact us at support@traxmate.io and we will do our best to help you.
How to disable Wi-Fi throttling on Android
Go to Settings > Developer options > find “Wi-Fi scan throttling” > disable it (or Settings > System > Advanced > Developer options).
With WiFi scan throttling disabled on your Android, you can be sure NetSpot will do its very best while surveying, scanning and analyzing your wireless network area.
What is processing rules?
The processing rules define exactly how the devices act in the system. At the moment this feature is only available for Traxmate superusers and administrators of an OnPrem Traxmate platform.
What is downlink commands?
The user is able to send messages to the devices (that have that feature enabled) to update the settings of the device. Available downlink commands are defined per Device Type.
What is traffic logs?
Every device that communicates with the Traxmate system will have all messages displayed in a traffic log available from the device page.
The traffic log displays location messages that will display the data sent in according to the settings made in the smart table – and of course the data available from the device. From each of these messages in the traffic log, the user is able to reach the raw data message for easier debugging – if needed.
What is device groups?
To be able to more easily administer and monitor a number of devices (user groups are being developed) they can be put in groups. One device may be a part of several groups.
You can view the tracks of several trackers at the same time as well as add and delete a group as well as add and remove devices from a group. From the group’s view, you are also able to add and delete devices.
Alerts
What is an "Alert rule"?
Depending on each use case there might be a desire for defining how and why an alert should be activated – and, of course, when. Using the alert rules the user is able to define alert rules from a number of predefined templates. You are, for instance, able to set up geofence rules during specific hours.
What is alerts?
An alert can be triggered either manually or automatically. The user is able to define which alert can trigger which event in the alert rules – and what chain of events will ensure using the subscriptions.
